In bid to ensure transparency in fielding candidates, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had invited public objections on its declared candidates. It was only after due investigation at the party level that the candidates were to be allotted party symbol. However, as the party declared another list of 60 candidates on Saturday night,  the public screening was sidelined as the process of filing nominations for Rajasthan assembly closes on Monday. The party has so far declared 164 candidates for the 200 member assembly election.

“People can write directly to our national convenor Arvind Kejriwal about any objection related to any of our declared candidate. It is our policy, yet as there is no time left for investigation the tickets will not be put on hold for random objections,” says a senior AAP leader in Rajasthan. AAP has introduced the procedure as part of the campaign strategy successfully implemented during Delhi assembly elections.

The party also pitched of innovative efforts such as inviting ‘expression of interest’ from people willing to contest on party ticket and even contemplated of tie-ups with other local parties. Still, unable to find suitable candidates on most seats the party open a walk-in for those breaking away from major political parties after being denied ticket.

“We remain open to all people with a clean background and honest intentions,” the AAP leader defends the possible arrivals.

Claiming to form the next government, the AAP has declared its first list more than six months ago. The party though was unable to find suitable candidates on more than 90 of the 200 assembly seats till Saturday evening. It has majorly been shortage of funds and lack of penetration at rural areas that had kept the party dependent upon associating local leaders. As the major two parties witness protest of those denied ticket for assembly elections, AAP  relaxes norms for candidates.
