Urban development minister Shrichand Kriplani after meeting with chief minister assured that talks were conclusively in favour of ‘priests’ and nearby residents regarding ‘Mandir Mafi’ land. A relief package reportedly has been decided by chief minister Vasundhara Raje at the meeting, a formal announcement of it though is expected on ‘appropriate’ occasion.
“I can assure of a positive decision, taking ‘pujaris’ and the local people in confidence,” said the UDH minister following the meet.
Announcement of the package shall come as a relief for thousands of priests and other people residing on land granted to temples during the princely state period by erstwhile rulers. Thousands of bighas of such land still continues to stand as Mandir Mafi land in revenue records across all 33 districts of the state.
Those residing on the ‘mafi land’ were deprived of proprietary rights over it following a high court decision in 2015. The state government subsequently had constituted a committee to extend relief to these people.
The Shani temple at the Trimurti Circle was relocated on Thursday amid heavy police protection. The temple was initially situated at slip lane of JLN Marg at the busy intersection from where it was moved a few months ago, on Thursday it was relocated at vacant land near the Trimurti Circle. The temple has been provided space near the road opposite of petrol pump at Trimurti. This though has been objected by several residents, claiming that this will add to the traffic congestion. Even as the temple premises has also been reduced during the relocation exercise, the evening prayers and parking issues remain concern for traffic. It must be mentioned here that when the Trimurti Circle was shortened to ease traffic flow, the temple was also moved to another place in the same area.
