Bisalpur: Parched pipeline ‘pours water’ on D- preps

Bisalpur water supply was disrupted in the city on Thursday due to maintenance work on the pipeline. The disruption in water supply from Bisalpur hit the preparations for Diwali. As it is the time for cleaning of houses the absence of water affected the city people. To face the issue people had to arrange private tankers of water.

Pumping was stopped on Thursday to repair a fault on the high tension line, according to the public health engineering department. It is noteworthy that main pipeline of Bisalpur water had leakage in the Manjhi Renwal area. This leakage was around 10 feet deep on the ground. To repair this leakage, the supply of water from the Bisalpur was disrupted and as a result, half of the city household suffered due to it. The repair work of pipeline was started by LNT employees on Wednesday. Due to pipeline repairs work, the water supply was stopped on Thursday during morning and evening.

The areas which suffered were Walled City, Nirman Nagar, Vaishali Nagar, Malviya Nagar, Chitrakoot, Murlipura, Bani Park, Mansarovar, Durgapura. Colonies connected ti Bisalpur feeder got water supply for 10 to 20 minutes. According to PHED officials, the pump house of Surajpura treatment plant was started by fixing leakage at 3.30 am on Wednesday late night.

The water reached the Balawala pump house at 7.00 am from Surajpura treatment plant. After that, the waters of Bisalpur started reaching the other households of Jawahar Circle, Brahmapuri, Central Park Pump House of the city. According to PHED Engineers, the water supply was normalized around 11 o’clock in the morning.

The claim of the PHED officials also proved wrong as the water supply in the areas of the walled city started in the evening.

Bisalpur dam is the lifeline of Jaipur and caters to about half the city’s drinking water requirement. About 540mld of water from Bisalpur dam is supplied daily to Jaipur. Water from Bisalpur dam reaches Balawala, 16km south of Jaipur, and is through 65 distribution centres of places across the city.

History of dam

XThe Bisalpur dam was constructed in the 1990s by the Rajasthan state government. 
In 2004, the Vasundhara Raje-led BJP government started the construction of a pipeline to bring Bisalpur water to Jaipur.
In 2016, the Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) proposed a ₹9.5 billion project to supply the Bisalpur water to the remaining areas of the city.
