Army Chief Bipin Rawat to attend disaster mgmt exercise in Rajasthan

The exercise will be conducted in pursuance to the directions of prime minister Narendra Modi during Combined Commanders Conference (CCC)-2015, with an aim to achieve ‘Disaster Resilient India’.

Jaipur based Sapta Shakti Command will be conducting Joint Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Exercise—Exercise Rahat—on behalf of Indian Army over a period of two days on February 11 and 12. The exercise will be conducted in pursuance to the directions of prime minister Narendra Modi during Combined Commanders Conference (CCC)-2015, with an aim to achieve ‘Disaster Resilient India’. 

Representatives from Armed Forces, National Disaster Management Response Mechanism (NDMRM), SDMA and DLMA, will be participating in the exercise. Army Chief General Bipin Rawat may also attend the exercise.

The two day exercise will see coming together of various ideas and ways to address situations involving human and natural disasters. The exercise will be conducted simultaneously at three places beginning in Jaipur in the form of a table top exercise and at Kota and Alwar wherein on ground capability and coordination amongst various stake holders will be demonstrated.

On the first day, the table top exercise will be conducted wherein offcers from the armed forces, NDMRM their counterparts in state, local police and various other agencies will hold discussions on how to effectively handle a situation as and when it develops. The discussion will be held in Jaipur. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is expected to attend the exercise here.

Meanwhile on the second day, various modalities will be played out in Kota and Alwar. Kota has been chosen to play out the scenario of collapse of dam wall of any of the numberous major dams made on the Chambal River. Army Chief General Bipin Rawat is expected to attend the exercise at Kota. 

Similarly at Alwar, a scenario of earthquake, excess rainfall amongst a few others would be played out by the authorities.
