Kunwar Danish Ali, a Jamia Millia Islamia alumni, Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is currently in the news after writing an emotional letter to Speaker Om Birla of the Lok Sabha, accusing BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri of using abusive language against him on the floor of the house and requesting an investigation.

The BSP MP admitted that the incident had him thinking about leaving the Parliament. Ali asked Seeaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla to take action against Bidhuri for his insulting comments made during the Lok Sabha's discussion of the Chandrayaan-3 mission on Thursday night. The remarks have been removed by the Speaker.

Danish Ali is a BSP MP from Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha Lok Sabha constituency since 2019. He was born and brought up in Hapur. He completed his studies at Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi. He joined Janata Dal but later switched to the BSP. BSP supremo Mayawati also named Danish Ali as their leader in the 17th Lok Sabha.

He has been active in politics since his college days and is a vociferous supporter of the causes he believes in. Ali's name first came to light during the 2017 Karnataka Assembly elections as the driving force and public face of a JD(S) and Congress post-election coalition.

Ali was 42 at the time, was appointed convenor of the five-member Coalition Coordination and Monitoring Committee the two parties established when they led a brief JD(S)-Congress government because he was trusted by JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda and the general secretary of the party.

Prior to this, in August, Ali made headlines for his vehement opposition to BJP MLC Hari Singh Dillon's shouting of "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" during his speech at the Amroha train station. Other MPs, MLAs, and senior railway employees who were present at the event claimed that things took a bad turn when both leaders got into a fight.

However, later he clarified and stated, “it was a government event and not a party-specific event”. “Those who have no role in giving independence to the country, try to convert government programmes into BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) events.”

Ali recently expressed opposition to the notion of one nation, one poll, for which the Modi administration has established a panel, saying: “Since they have nothing left to say, they have brought in one nation, one election. Then, one nation, one religion; one nation, one leader; one nation, one industrialist. Are they going to run the country like this?… If you touch the Constitution, you cannot remain in power in this country.”
