Relaxations in Pune? Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar says THIS

Pawar has said that the final decision on COVID relaxations will be taken after consultations with chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Maharashtra's deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Saturday hinted that Pune is likely to get some relaxations beginning Monday. The decision was taken in the weekly Covid review meeting, as per a report by Hindustan Times. Currently, Level 3  restrictions are in place in the district.

Pawar has said that the final decision on COVID relaxations will be taken after consultations with chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.

"In the Covid review meeting there was [a] consensus to give some relaxations from Monday such as increase [the] timing of shops' [operation hours] till 7 pm. I will conduct a meeting on Monday in Mantralaya. I will talk to the CM as well. A positive decision will be taken for shops and restrictions on weekends," Hindustan Times quoted Pawar as saying.

At the last review meeting, Pawar had said that a proposal to allow malls to operate with fully-vaccinated persons was being discussed.

According to health department officials, 25 districts in the state, including Mumbai, Thane and Pune have a weekly positivity rate under 0.1%, while the remaining 10 districts including Kolhapur, Sangli, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Satara, Raigad, Solapur, Palghar, Beed, and Ahmednagar have a weekly positivity rate between 0.15% and 0.85%.

"The health department is preparing a plan on relaxation to see what relaxations can be given for areas where the positivity rate is around 0.1%. It will be presented to the CM and the Covid task force soon," health minister Rajesh Tope had said on Friday.

Meanwhile, Pune district on Friday reported 1,111 fresh Covid-19 cases and 17 deaths in 24 hours. The death toll stands at 18,604 , with 15,809 active cases currently in hospital undergoing treatment, or in home isolation. Whereas, Maharashtra reported 6,753 new COVID-19 cases and 167 fresh fatalities on Friday, taking the infection tally to 62,51,810 and the death toll to 1,31,205, a health department official said. Maharashtra's COVID-19 recovery rate is 96.33 per cent, while the fatality rate is 2.09 per cent.
