Seeking resignation of Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley over banking fraud of Punjab National Bank (PNB), former Maharashtra chief minister and senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan on Wednesday said that the Finance Minister should take the 'moral responsibility' of the entire fraud.
Chavan criticised BJP government in both the state and the Centre.
Speaking about the PNB fraud which shook the entire country, he said, "The fraud has raised the biggest question mark over the country's banking system, but even four days after the fraud was uncovered, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley did not utter a word. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and HRD minister Prakash Javadekar, who do not have any direct relation with the banking sector, were seen defending the government. However, now the Finance Minister should take the moral responsibility of the fraud, and should immediately step down."
