The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar said on Friday that the coalition government of Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress will last the full five-year term if it came to power in Maharashtra.

Sharad Pawar said to reporters in Nagpur, ''The process to form the government has begun. The coalition government will last five years and there is no possibility of a mid-term poll in Maharashtra.''

The NCP chief also said that his party "will think about" Shiv Sena's demand for chief minister's post. Pawar's comments come right after his party colleague Nawab Malik stated that the coalition will be headed by the Shiv Sena.

'Sawaal baar-baar poocha ja raha hai ki Shiv Sena ka CM hoga kya?CM ke post ko leke hi Shiv Sena-BJP ke beech mein vivaad hua, toh nishchit roop se CM Shiv Sena ka hoga. Shiv Sena ko apmanit kiya gaya hai, unka swabhimaan banaye rakhna hamari zimmedari banti hai. (Question is being asked continuously whether the Chief Minister will be from Shiv Sena? Differences came up between Shiv Sena and BJP due to the Chief Minister`s post, so definitely Chief Minister will be from Shiv Sena. Shiv Sena has been insulted, it is our responsibility to maintain their self-respect)," ANI quoted Nawab Malik as saying.

Commenting on the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) drafted by the three parties, Sharad Pawar said that the government will be formed on the basis of the CMP.

The party chiefs- Sonia Gandhi, Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar of Congress, Shiv Sena and NCP respectively are expected to hold another round of discussion over the common minimum programme for Maharashtra on Friday.

Pawar also stressed on the fact that stable government will be formed in Maharashtra on the principle of Secularism and immediately addressing various issues concerning the farmers in Maharashtra.

Shiv Sena and BJP contested the recently-held assembly elections together but failed to reach an agreement for government formation. The Shiv Sena's demand of 50-50 government formula, asking for the chief minister's post of two and half years was not accepted by the BJP.

After BJP failed to stake claim to form the government, the Shiv Sena has tried to enlist the support of NCP and Congress for an alliance government.

Since Shiv Sena has 56 seats in the Maharashtra Assembly, way below the half-way mark of 144, it will need both the NCP's 54 and Congress' 44 legislators to reach the magic number.

President's rule was imposed on Maharashtra on Tuesday after no party was able to form the government even 20 days after assembly election results which were declared on October 24.
