Karnataka bandh: Here's how it may impact normal life in state

Private school managements may take a decision to declare holiday but the education department yet to take a decision as it did on the occasion of bandh on September 2.

Normal life will be affected in Karnataka on Saturday due to the bandh call given by various organisations. It will be the second bandh within 26 days of this month. The bandh has been called by more than 1,000 organisations in protest against the delay in implementation of Kalasa-Banduri project in North Karnataka region.

According to Vatal Nagaraj, president, Kannada Okkuta, the bandh will be observed from 6.00 am to 6.00 pm on Saturday and emergency services are exempted from the bandh. “We want to stop supply of vegetables and milk to Goa from Karnataka on Saturday protesting Goa’s opposition to Kalasa-Banduri project. If the project is implemented, North Karnataka people will get sufficient water for drinking and irrigation purpose,’’ Nagaraj said. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) Employees’ Union has also extended support to the bandh on Saturday. “We will apply leave on Saturday since we are not supposed to participate in the bandh officially. So, I appeal public not to visit BBMP offices on Saturday for any official work,’’ said P Dayanand.

Various organisations, including political parties, the Lorry Owners Association, Taxi Owners Association, Kannada film industry have extended support to the bandh.

Though the KSRTC and BMTC have decided to operate bus services, the protestors would prevent buses coming out of the respective bus depots.

Meanwhile, former chief minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy wrote a letter to Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar for a meeting to discuss various issues including Kalasa-Banduri project.
