Bangladesh has assured India that it would construct border outposts along the uncharted territory of Tripura and Mizoram to check proliferation of camps of Indian insurgent groups in Chittagong area and to put a stop to unbridled human trafficking through the porous border.
"To help India weed out terror training camps of insurgent groups, Bangladesh has offered to construct 40 more border outposts in addition to the 13 that have already been constructed. The BOPs will be manned by the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) to ensure that IIGs camps are demolished and one of the biggest corridors for human trafficking is plugged," sources said.
Returning the favour, India's Home Secretary LC Goyal also told his Bangladeshi counterpart, Mozammel Haque Khan that the Indian security agencies that have already tightened their grip to stop all forms of anti-Bangladesh activities will continue work in close coordination of Bangladesh to check Jammat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh . The assurance assumes special significance following the October 2 Burdwan bomb blasts and the subsequent developments.
Investigations have revealed that JMB had been planning strikes against the ruling Awami League government in Bangladesh. The secretary level talk was followed by joint working group (JWG) meeting of both the countries.
The talk discussed in detail security and border management related issues between the two countries. Significantly, both India and Bangladesh expressed satisfaction over the District Magistrates level talks that took place recently. India also assured Bangladesh of its resolve to get the Land Boundary Act through in the parliament as soon as possible that would help the two countries resolve the boundary dispute and related problems. India and Bangladesh have also agreed to resolve the issues concerning fishermen drifting inadvertently across the maritime boundaries.
In a gesture of goodwill, both the countries have started sending back fishermen with their boats without losing time.
