Ganpati Visarjan: Mumbai and Pune police issue traffic advisory, special local trains to run, security tightened

With this year’s Ganesh Chaturthi festival coming to an end today, the Mumbai Police and Pune Police are expecting a massive footfall for Ganpati Visarjan on Thursday. Today, given the last day of the festival, a traffic advisory has been issued for smooth vehicular movement and more than 19,000 personnel, including officers, have been deployed to ensure the safety of the citizens in Mumbai. 

More than 7,000 police personnel, officers, and home guards are deployed in Pune city of Maharashtra for Ganapati idol immersion processions, scheduled to start on Thursday morning, the last day of the festival.

Similar security arrangements will also be in force for Eid-e-Milad, which will be celebrated on Friday.

PTI quoted an official as saying, "The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has posted 1,337 lifeguards, including 1,035 at 69 natural water bodies and 302 at around 200 artificial ponds, and arranged 53 motorboats at natural water bodies."

Ganpati Visarjan Pune Traffic Advisory 

''More than 6,800 police personnel, 578 police officers, DCPs, and ACPs have been deployed on the city roads to ensure that the immersion processions proceed peacefully,'' joint commissioner of police, Sandip Karnik said on Wednesday.

He said the adequate number of home guards and two SRPF companies will ensure the smooth passage of processions in central Pune.

Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads, Quick Response Teams, and dog squads are also stationed at various places.

Pune has 3,865 Ganesh mandals in the city. 6,14,257 idols of Lord Ganesh were installed in households.

Ganpati Visarjan Mumbai Traffic Advisory 

The advisory released by the city traffic police includes;

  • The entry of heavy vehicles in the Greater Mumbai road will be prohibited on September 28 from 10 am to 6 am on September 29.
  • The ones who are exempted from the above traffic order include vehicles carrying vegetables, milk, bread, and bakery products.
  • Tankers of drinking water, petrol, diesel and kerosene, ambulances, government and semi-government vehicles, and school buses are also exempted from the above order.
