BSF soldier killed in Pak firing on LoC

A Border Security Force (BSF) constable was killed when Pakistan army snipers fired at him on the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector of North Kashmir's Kupwara district on Tuesday.

Inspector General of BSF, Kashmir Frontier, Sonali Mishra told DNA that the attack occurred at 4.50 pm when Pakistan snipers fired at the Forward Defence Location (FDL) in which constable Sunil Kumar Murmu of 124th battalion suffered grievous injuries.

"It was deployment BSF and 20 Jat (regiment of the army). It was snipping which took place in the Tangdhar sector. Constable Sunil Kumar Murmu was hit in his abdomen", said Mishra.

The incident occurred at a very high altitude post and the injured soldier had to be brought on foot to Jabri village on foot. "He was then taken to Shararat from where he was airlifted to 92 base hospital", said Mishra.

Hours later he succumbed to his wounds at Army's 92 Base hospital at 8.30 pm. Hailing from Langritar village in Jamui district of Bihar, 29 year old Constable Murmu had joined the BSF in 2013

This is the second time in the last 24 hours when Pakistan army has provoked India on the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir. Three civilians were injured when Pakistan army resorted to ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch and Uri sectors in the Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

Pakistani repeated provocations have came after Indian army thwarted Pakistani Border Action Team (BAT) strike killing one intruder and injuring two others on the LoC in Gulpur area of Poonch sector of Jammu division on Sunday.

The ceasefire violation has come a week after Pakistan army resorted to heavy shelling on Indian forward positions and civilian areas along the Line of Control, killing a woman in Pukherni village of Rajouri district.

More than 20 people have been killed in Pakistani shelling near LoC and the international border across Jammu since January 17. Over 75 have suffered injuries and more than 5000 people have fled their homes in Jammu division.
