This superstar who started as a bus conductor has won the audience’s hearts over and over again with his performances. He enjoys a huge popularity so much so that he once had to go to a temple in disguise and was mistaken as a beggar because of his look.

The superstar earlier worked as a bus conductor before joining the film industry and entertaining the audience with his performances. The actor is none other than Rajinikanth.

Born on December 12, 1950, in Bangalore, Mysore as Shivaji Rao Gaikwad, the superstar worked as a bus conductor in this city, before the legendary Tamil director, the late K Balachander spotted him, christened him Rajinikanth and gave him his first break in the hit flick Aboorva Ragangal in 1975. After that, the actor gave Indian Cinema a number of hits and gained immense popularity.

Once the superstar visited a temple in Bangalore in the guise of a humble old man and was mistaken as a beggar by a woman who also offered him Rs 10 alms. This amusing anecdote has been mentioned in the actor's biography 'The Name is Rajinikanth,' authored by city-based ophthalmologist Gayathri Sreekanth.

After his blockbuster Sivaji -- The Boss, Rajinikanth wanted to visit a temple much to the bewilderment of his friend. The book said, that even when he was cautioned that there might be a stampede due to his immense popularity, the actor decided to go in disguise. He was dressed in a crumpled shirt and simple lungi with a thick brown shawl covering his head.

The actor assumed the gait of an old man and walking with a limp, entered the temple. A middle-aged Gujarati lady approached the actor and handed him a Rs 10 note, taking pity on his appearance.

The actor politely took the money and stepped into the shrine. However, the lady got confused after seeing him dropping a Rs 100 note in the temple hundi. Later, when the woman saw him entering into a posh car, she realized her mistake and felt embarrassed. She then apologized and offered to take the money back, but the actor replied, “Every time, He finds a way to remind me that I am nothing but a mere beggar at his altar. You have just been instrumental in his play-act. It's His way of saying we are nobody in front of him.”

The actor is one of the highest-paid and richest actors in the country. The actor recently earned Rs 210 crore for his recent release Jailer which is the highest fee for any Indian actor. Not only this, the actor reportedly has a whopping net worth of Rs 430 crore and enjoys a luxurious lifestyle. After the success of his recent release Jailer, the producer of the film gifted him Rs 1.25 crore worth of BMW X7.
