It’s all about the timing for Emma Brown Garrett

She came to India almost three years ago and since then, Emma Brown Garrett has felt a lot more at home than ever. For someone who grew up on a regular dose of Indian culture and Hindi films, thanks to an Indian best friend, Emma couldn’t help but develop a curiosity towards India. And now that she is making her debut in Hindi films, Emma feels she is living a dream.

“I started my acting career in India with a Bengali film, Shukno Lanka, opposite Mithun Chakraborty. Now, I am all set to make my Bollywood debut alongside the three Deols in Yamla Pagla Deewana. What more could I ask for?” says Emma, who has been an ardent fan of Indian films, including works of Satyajit Ray. She has also learnt to read and write Hindi and can speak the language too.

Of her debut in Bollywood, Emma says, “This is Dharmendraji’s 50th year in the industry and I just hope that people like the film and also accept me in it.”

Emma plays the role of Sunny Deol’s wife and a mother to three kids.

“Playing a married woman was easy as I could relate to it, but playing mother to three children was quite a challenge,” she says.

While Emma’s excited about her debut, she’s also upbeat about the fact that she already has three Bollywood films to look forward to.

“One of these is Rohan Sippy’s Dum Maaro Dum, in which I star opposite Abhishek Bachchan,” she informs. With so much happening, Emma concludes, “I guess my timing was right. I was at the right place at the right time — that’s what helped me.”
