In what may come as a surprise to management experts in Gujarat, a 20-year-old youth from Surat got a perfect score in the Common Admission Test (CAT), which is a gateway to IIMs across the country.
Not just that, Meet Agarwal is among the 20 candidates across the country to get 100 percentile in CAT 2017. Like last year, a total of 20 candidates have scored 100 percentile; three are non-engineers.
CAT allows more than about two lakh candidates to seek admission in India's top business schools, including the IIMs.
This year, the number of students taking the exam was a three-year high, in anticipation of the Indian Institute of Management Bill being passed. Now, students will get degrees instead of diplomas.
Gujarat topper Meet has been on a journey since his childhood, making the state and the country proud. At the age of 7, he represented India in chess in Asian and Commonwealth competitions. Thereafter, he also represented the state at national level in Table Tennis.
"Playing Table Tennis while preparing for CAT refreshed me and hence I did not play for any tournament during preparation but for my own happiness," says Meet who is appearing for CA finals along with studying BCom. He added, "Preparing for CA, B.Com and CAT was extremely strenuous. I also used to visit my fathers office who is into textile exports regularly. While I was certain to get 99 and above in CAT, I never expected a perfect score."
