The Delhi unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded the sacking of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Sahi Ram Pahalwan. A Delhi court pronounced him guilty of assaulting a youth in a case that dates back to 2016.

Daring Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to "practice what he preaches", the party asked him to expel the tainted legislator with immediate effect. Manoj Tiwari, Delhi BJP president said, "People of Delhi want Kejriwal to expel Pahalwan and prove that he really believes in politics of change. He rode home to power on the promise of ushering an era of clean politics but the truth is far from satisfactory," he said. It is saddening to see that as many as 49 MLAs are facing one criminal charge or the other. People of Delhi are shocked to see what Aam Aadmi Party MLAs have been upto in the past three years," he added.

West Delhi MP Parvesh Sahib Singh echoed similar sentiments. In a tweet on Thursday, he made a similar demand saying Pahalwan should get the boot.

On Wednesday, the Patiala House Courts found the AAP MLA from Tughlakabad guilty of assaulting a youth.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal relied upon the testimony of the complainant -- Yogender Bidhur -- and held that the prosecution was able to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt against the Delhi legislature and his two aides -- Subhash and Lalit.

"The complainant has proved assault upon him with a sharp object in which he received simple injuries. He was going to purchase some medicine when he was wrongfully restrained," the court said.

The court convicted all three for the offence punishable under sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by sharp object), 341 (wrongfully restrain) and 34 (common intention) of Indian Penal Code and posted the matter for August 7 for hearing arguments on the quantum of sentence.

The accused had denied the allegations levelled against them, saying that they were falsely implicated in the case.
