Amidst North India reeling under cold wave, the farmers' protests in the National Capital region enters the 27th day on Tuesday. Despite the bitter cold, farmers are put firm at the Singhu border with their demands to repeal the new Central farm laws. Farmers say they will not return back without getting the three farm laws cancelled.

Farmers' unions will meet on Tuesday to consensually decide whether to accept or reject the Centre’s fresh talks offer even as their umbrella body planned to protest in Mumbai as part of their ongoing agitation against the central agri laws. A reply to the Union agriculture ministry's letter, sent to 40 farmers' unions late on Sunday night, is also expected to be finalised in the meeting.

The farmers have been sitting on a gradual fast since December 21. Farmers have said that their protests will be peaceful and their will be no violence from their side.

Once and NDA ally, Shiromani Akali Dal, has demanded an emergency Parliament session to annul the new laws. From December 25 to December 27, the farmers will make Haryana toll plazas free.

A 65-year-old farmer protesting at the Singhu border attempted suicide by consuming poison. The farmer consumed poison post-midnight when he was rushed to a medical facility in Rohtak. He is now out of danger. The farmer also wrote a suicide note.

On the other hand, it is learnt that the farmers' unions have been consulting prominent lawyers to firm up their reply to the Supreme Court which had last week suggested setting up a committee to find a solution.

5 major points on Farmers' protest Day 27

1. Thousands of farmers from 21 districts in Maharashtra will join the protest at Delhi borders where farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have been camping for weeks.

2. Farmers will be on a one time fast on December 23, requesting the people also to skip their one time meal for the day.

3. Vehicular movement at Delhi-Meerut Expressway completely stopped around 7.30 am on Tuesday as the farmers protesting at the Ghazipur border for the past 27 days blocked all its carriageways. At 7.37am, the Delhi Traffic Police used its Twitter handle to update the public about the closure of the carriageways at the Ghazipur-Ghaziabad border.

4. Commission agents known as Arhtiyas in Punjab will keep their shops shut for four days from Tuesday in protest against income tax raids allegedly conducted to intimidate them for supporting the farmers' stir against the centre's agriculture laws, according to a body representing them.

5. Farmer groups have appealed their counterparts in Bihar and other states to join the agitation to further pressurise the government to repeal the three contentious farm laws.
