Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have completely changed their mindset, attitude and a little tweak in personnel having qualified for the playoffs second qualifier of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). From having won just two games out of the seven they played in the first half of the season, KKR have won seven out of the nine games they have played in the UAE.
One of the biggest reasons for their revival has been the 26-year old all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer, who has blown away three oppositions single-handedly after being given the opportunity to bat at the top of the order and take on the bowling from word go.
The party started against the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians, it became a little mellow in the last few games but it picked up again when it mattered the most as it may have been a slow pitch for anyone and everyone at Sharjah but not for Iyer.
Iyer just took off and ripped the DC bowling attack, considered one of the best in the competition and never looked like he was in any discomfort. He charged against Kagiso Rabada, Axar Patel making the best use of hand-eye coordination hit the ball out of the park very easily.
It was not just the shots, it was the mindset and fearless attitude. He threw the pitch out of the equation and played the bowlers and the ball in front of him getting to his third half-century of the season. Iyer now averages 67 in the nine games he has played scoring 320 runs.
The fans, experts hailed Iyer for a fantastic knock against the Delhi Capitals and a fabulous season. Here are some of the reactions:
Most of us thought this was a difficult pitch to bat.

Venkatesh Iyer has been central to #KKR’s turnaround in UAE, it’s fitting that he is leading their charge into the final. #IPL2021

Venkatesh Iyer doesn't get enough credit for KKR redemption this season. He's one of the major reasons for their turnaround

Truly changed things for #KKR pic.twitter.com/kExjYUIKeH
Venkatesh Iyer reminds me of one of those Pakistani cricketers from the 80s/90s that would emerge from the wilderness and surprise everyone by playing fearless cricket at the top level.

Venkatesh Iyer. The love child of Lance Klusener, S Ramesh and Chris Gayle.

And he bowls like Guy Whittal for added kicks. What's not to like?
Has any absolutely unknown uncapped player played better than Venkatesh Iyer in his 1st season of IPL? #thoughts #DCvsKKR #IPL2O21 pic.twitter.com/zYA1fxex4T
