After completing their three-game T20I series against Afghanistan, the Indian cricket team will shift their attention to the longest format of the game. They are set to face England in a five-game Test series starting from January 25. In a recent report, it has been revealed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) intends to relieve their star player KL Rahul from the dual responsibilities of wicketkeeping and batting.

Recognizing the challenges that arise from keeping wickets on Indian pitches, the decision-makers believe that it would be beneficial for Rahul to solely focus on his batting. This strategic move will not only enhance his performance but also help him manage his workload more effectively. It is important to mention that KL Rahul fulfilled the wicketkeeping duties in both Test matches against South Africa.

The change in the wicketkeeper role presents exciting opportunities for rising stars like Ishan Kishan and KS Bharat. With Rishabh Pant absent from the squad, there is a significant void to fill, and the upcoming five-game series against England could serve as the perfect platform for Kishan and Bharat to showcase their skills.

Looking ahead to India's upcoming matches, the team is preparing to face Afghanistan in a thrilling three-game T20I series. The matches are scheduled for January 11, 14, and 17. Following the T20I series, India will host England in a highly anticipated five-game Test series.

The Indian side recently returned from South Africa, where they competed against the Proteas in a multi-format series. Their performance in the Test series against South Africa has placed them in second position in the World Test Championship (WTC) rankings, with two victories in four matches.

However, the upcoming Test series against England provides a golden opportunity for the Rohit Sharma-led team to climb the WTC rankings and remain in contention. It is worth noting that England currently occupies the eighth spot in the standings, with nine points from five matches.
