India vs England 2nd T20I: MS Dhoni set to create history, will join Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid in elite list

It seems every time MS Dhoni takes the field these days, he sets a new record. After creating a stumping record in India's 1st T20I against England, Dhoni is set to create history on Friday in the second T20I. Dhoni will become the third Indian cricketer to play 500 international games. 

Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid are other Indian cricketers to have played 500 international games. Sachin played 664 international games during his 24-year long international career while Dravid played 509 international games. 

Dhoni, who has retired from test cricket but continues to play limited overs cricket, will become the ninth player to join this list. Sachin tops the list followed by Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Sanath Jayasuriya, Ricky Ponting, Shahid Afridi, Jacques Kallis and Dravid. 

Dhoni, who made his international debut in 2004, has played 499 international games till now including 90 tests, 318 ODIs and 91 T20Is. 

Dhoni played his first ODI against Bangladesh in 2004 while he made his test debut in 2005 against Sri Lanka. Dhoni was also the part of the squad in that played India’s inaugural T20I against South Africa in 2006.

Dhoni has captained India in 331 matches winning 178 matches. He led India to victory in 2007 World T20 and 2011 World Cup. Under Dhoni, team India climbed to number one position in Test cricket in 2009. The Men in Blue also won the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy 2013 under him.
