MS Dhoni had announced his international retirement on August 15 and that sent social media and billions of cricket fans into meltdown. Lost amidst all this, there was one more player from the 2011 World Cup winning squad who also announced his retirement. Suresh Raina, who is also MS Dhoni’s team-mate in Chennai Super Kings, also announced his retirement from international stage. Thus, in one stroke, the jersey numbers seven and three had retired from international cricket, that too on India’s 74th Independence Day.

MS Dhoni had gotten a letter of appreciation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday and that was shared by Dhoni on his Twitter handle for the first time since February. Following MS Dhoni, even Suresh Raina has gotten a letter of appreciation from the Prime Minister.

Sharing it on his social media handle, Suresh Raina captioned it, “When we play, we give our blood & sweat for the nation. No better appreciation than being loved by the people of this country and even more by the country’s PM. Thank you @narendramodi ji for your words of appreciation & best wishes. I accept them with gratitude. Jai Hind!”

Dhoni, Raina retire and an era ends

MS Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket through a social media post. The former Team India skipper took to Instagram and shared a video with a caption: "Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout.from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired".

The video also had the iconic song 'Mai Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar Hu' from Amitabh Bachchan's 'Kabhie Kabhie' playing in the background. But numerous fans have been wondering why Dhoni mentioned the specific time in 19:29 on his retirement post. According to social media speculations, when Dhoni left the pitch for the final time for Team India, the clock showed 19:29 as well. As per the belives from fans, this is the reason why Dhoni decided to refer to that specific timeband in his retirement post.

Since India's semi-final exit from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 against New Zealand in August last year, MS Dhoni did not play for India since that match. That was also the final time Mahi downed upon the iconic Blue jersey for India when he got run-out, inches away from guiding his nation to another thrilling victory.
