Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio partners with NVIDIA to build AI supercomputers in India

Jio will be in charge of consumer interaction and access as well as managing and maintaining the AI cloud infrastructure.

Reliance Industries Limited, which is run by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, said on September 8 that it would collaborate with American chipmaker NVIDIA to enhance artificial intelligence in India.

"The companies will work together to build AI infrastructure that is over an order of magnitude more powerful than the fastest supercomputer in India today," Nvidia said in a release.

India's goals for artificial intelligence and semiconductor chips are being advanced by the alliance. In addition, the collaboration will support the creation of an indigenous foundation large language model that is designed for generative Al applications and trained on a variety of national languages. 

In accordance with the agreement, NVIDIA will offer Jio end-to-end AI supercomputer technology, including CPU, GPU, networking, and AI operating systems and frameworks for creating the most sophisticated AI models. Jio will be in charge of consumer interaction and access as well as managing and maintaining the AI cloud infrastructure.

Access to the cutting-edge GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip and DGX Cloud, a cloud service for AI supercomputing, will be made available by NVIDIA. 

Akash Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, stated that both Jio and NVIDIA will create a cutting-edge AI cloud architecture that is safe, enduring, and highly pertinent to India's special potential.

He said, “Together, we will develop an advanced AI cloud infrastructure that is secure, sustainable, and deeply relevant to India's unique opportunities. This state-of-the-art platform will be a catalyst in accelerating AI-driven innovations across sectors, from healthcare and education to enterprise solutions. Our vision is to make AI accessible to researchers, start-ups, and enterprises across the nation, thereby accelerating India's journey towards becoming an AI powerhouse."
