Meet son of India's second richest billionaire in service sector who leads education firm in Dubai

Dino Varkey is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GEMS Education, a Dubai-based international education company. He has been leading the firm since June 2017 as CEO. Before this, he was Executive Chairman of the firm, one of the world's largest private school operators.

Varkey represents the third generation of an education family, driven by providing access to quality education for almost 60 years. He is responsible for providing vision, insight and strategy across the organisation.

His billionaire father, Sunny Varkey, founded the company in 2000. Sunny Varkey is a Dubai-based NRI, a billionaire education entrepreneur and philanthropist. The 66-year-old has a real-time net worth of Rs 26,640 crore as on September 20, 2023, as per Forbes. According to the magazine, he is India's second richest billionaire in the service sector.

His son, Dino Varkey, joined his company in 2004 as Senior Director of Operations. He completed his graduation and master's (MBA) from the University of Sheffield, England. He was also a founding board member of the YPO Dubai Chapter. His brother Jay is the executive director of the firm.

Dino is a frequent speaker and moderator at global conferences and gatherings. He is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Education, Gender and Work (2016 – 2018). GEMS Education is the world's largest operator of K-12 schools.
