Cyrus Soli Poonawalla is the richest person in India who owns a pharma-sector company. His net worth is a whopping Rs 2,70,725 crore, according to Fortune India.

Dilip Shanghvi and family is second on the list with a net worth of Rs 1,42,282 crore. Hasmukh Chudgar and family is third with a net worth of Rs 68491 crore.

Poonawalla, according to Forbes, is the son of a horse breeder. He founded Serum Institute of India in 1966.

The company produces over 1.5 billion doses every year. These vaccines include measles, polio and flu.

He also holds majority stake in Poonawalla Fincorp, a listed financial services firm.

He did BSc from the Pune University.

His son, Adar Poonawalla, is also a respected businessman.

Poonawalla received Padma Bhushan in 2022.
