Famous luxury brands have expressed interest in the Jio World Plaza, which is part of the impressive $1 billion business and cultural hub being built by Reliance Industries in Mumbai's thriving business district and is set to open this year. Gucci, Cartier, and Louis Vuitton have secured leases for stores in this new Mumbai shopping destination, seizing the opportunities presented by India's robust economic growth and the rising number of millionaires.
Reliance hasn't officially revealed the tenant names, but real estate analysts from CRE Matrix have shared lease documents that confirm Burberry Group and some brands under LVMH, Kering, and Richemont have signed up to open stores in the mall. These brands have agreed to give Reliance a portion of their monthly earnings, ranging from 4% to 12%.
Even though people have asked them many times, Reliance, Burberry, LVMH, Kering, and Richemont have not shared any comments about this. Anuj Kejriwal, who is the CEO of Anarock Retail in India, talked to a media company and said that luxury brands in India have always had trouble finding good places to open their stores. They usually had to start at fancy hotels. But now, these brands want to have bigger stores in exclusive luxury places
Louis Vuitton's Jio World Plaza store will be India's largest at nearly 700 square meters across its four outlets. Cartier's store will be its second in the country and Dior's third. To maintain the mall's luxury status, Dior's lease includes a clause for a 25% rent reduction if four out of ten luxury brands, like Gucci, Cartier, Bulgari, and Tiffany, don't open stores in the mall within six months.
