Owing to quality issues, General Motors (GM) India has suspended production of diesel variants HB and NB of its newly launched Chevrolet Sail sedan and the Sail U-VA on June 5.
It also suspended production of the BS III version of multi-utility vehicle Tavera due to emission concerns on June 6.
Delivery of the cars might get delayed.
“Neither issue is safety-related. The Tavera BS-IV and Sail HB & NB petrol models are unaffected and production of these vehicles is continuing,” said the company.
The company, however, did not specify whether it is planning to recall the models already sold. “We will come back to you with an update after a thorough investigation in the coming days,” said P Balendran, vice-president, GM India.
It is not clear when the company will resume production the three vehicles.
The company last year launched the hatchback Sail U-VA and the Sail sedan this year.
Out of the 8,500 vehicles sold in May – sales were up 40% on-year – the Chevrolet Sail accounted for 2,851 units, the Chevrolet Enjoy for 2,177 units and the Chevrolet Tavera 1,475 units.
The company currently sells the Spark, Beat, Chevrolet Sail, Sail U-VA, Cruze, Tavera, Chevrolet Enjoy and the Captiva models in India.
