After a no-show 2016, this year, Saif Ali Khan has as many as four releases (Rangoon released earlier this year, Kaalakandi and Chef will follow, and he is currently filming Baazaar). And if all goes well, the actor will sign another film with Nikkhil Advani (who’s producing Baazaar).

He is in talks for Nikkhil’s next directorial, based on the Batla House encounter. The filmmaker has already announced what it’s about (see box). Our source tells us, “Nikkhil wanted an older, experienced actor to play the role of Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma. He has already bounced the idea to Saif and he has liked it.”

Saif confirms the development but adds, “We haven’t signed anything yet. We are talking about it. But I’m still sinking into Baazaar. Once I get comfortable, we will start talking about it.”

Saif has previously worked with Nikkhil in Kal Ho Naa Ho and now, Baazaar. Batla House will be their third film together.

About the Batla House encounter

The infamous Batla House encounter case shook Delhi in 2008. The story is about how a tough cop nailed down terrorists and even lost his life while nabbing the culprits. A national debate had followed suit.

Saif’s first cop act

If Saif signs Batla house, it will be the first time in his career that he will be seen as a cop. The actor has played a spy or a secret agent in Agent Vinod and Phantom, but has never donned the khaki uniform unlike all his
contemporaries who have played cops.
