Pallavi Joshi revealed the idea and source material behind the upcoming movie The Vaccine War and even revealed how much Former ICMR DG Dr Balram Bhargava charged them for the movie.
Actor-producer Pallavi Joshi is delighted as her next film, The Vaccine War, celebrates India's triumph in the most crucial time of humanity. While speaking to DNA India exclusively, Pallavi opened up about the thoughts that went into making a bio-science film after delivering the blockbuster The Kashmir Files. Pallavi said, "It seems almost unlikely for a director-producer duo to make The Taskent Files, The Kashmir Files, and then suddenly onto The Vaccine War. But this is a story we thought it should be told."
Touted as 'A True Story', The Vaccine War is based on Dr Balram Bhargava's book, Going Viral: The Making of Covaxin. In the film, Nana Patekar plays the role of Dr Balram (Former Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research). Pallavi revealed how they discovered the source material. "During the second wave (of Covid), many people lost lives, and it was a very bleak period. After the second wave, we got to know about the book of Dr Balram Bharagava, and it narrated the entire journey of how they developed the vaccine to fight Coronavirus. When Vivek read it, he came to me and said, 'This is amazing, you don't know what these scientists have done'."
Pallavi further said that the team of scientists led by Balram overcame multiple obstacles to save millions of lives, and after reading the book and reading news articles about the same, they approached Dr Balram to convert his book into a film. Pallavi revealed how much Dr Balram charged for the movie. "Guess how much Dr Bhargava took for the rights? He only took one rupee." Pallavi continued, "Dr Bhargava told us that the vaccines were made in the public interest, so how can I take profits from it." Pallavi further revealed that even the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) didn't patent the vaccine, as they made the vaccine during the crisis for public interest, so they didn't patent it, and we got vaccines free or at a minimal price.
The Vaccine War stars an ensemble cast including Nana Patekar, Pallavi Joshi, Raima Sen, Girija Oak Godbole, and Sapthami Gowda. The Vaccine War is scheduled for theatrical release on September 28.
