It is to be noted that Chinese government has tried to kill all efforts for independent investigations into the origin of COVID-19 and how the virus was transmitted to humans in coronavirus epicentre Wuhan.
In an editorial published in the journal Nature, the investigators of WHO have suggested the scientists to start looking for data in neighbouring countries and not rely on help from China.
For its part, China has repeatedly claimed that COVID-19 was trasnmitted naturally into humans from bats. Some scientists also said that it is possible that COVID-19 had natural origins.
But some experts are of the view that coronavirus leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, where some controversial research was being conducted by Chinese on the dangerous pathogens.
In the latest article, the researchers said rhat further research in determining the origin of COVID-19 should be done by independent scientists.
'Understanding the origins of a devastating pandemic is a global priority, grounded in science,' they added.
Menawhile, China has said that scientists should 'concentrate on other possible avenues that may help trace the origin' of Covid and advised that experts must conduct studies in other countries.
The authors of the letter include Dr Marion Koopmans, head of viroscience at the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam, and Dr Peter Daszak, president of New York-based EcoHealth Alliance.
