Blasts in Pakistan's Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa kill at least 54, more than 100 injured

A blast near a mosque in Pakistan's Balochistan province's Mastung district resulted in at least 52 fatalities, including a police officer, and about 100 injuries on Friday, according to Dawn. Abdul Rasheed Shahi, the district health officer (DHO), has confirmed the fatalities.

According to a report by the Pakistani daily, City Station House Officer (SHO) Mohammad Javed Lehri claimed that a police official was one of the victims. According to Dr. Saeed Mirwani, CEO of Shaheed Nawab Ghous Bakhsh Raisani Memorial Hospital, several patients are receiving care there while more than 20 injured persons have been sent to Quetta for treatment, according to Dawn.

The explosion occurred while people were assembling for an Eid-i-Miladun Nabi procession next to the Madina Masjid at Alfalah Road, according to Mastung Assistant Commissioner (AC) Atta-ul-Munim. Nawaz Gishkori was the DSP who was slain, according to the Mastung AC. The explosion, according to SHO Lehri, was a "suicide blast."

The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, a banned organization, denied responsibility for the attack. Rescue teams had been rushed to Mastung, according to interim Balochistan information minister Jan Achakzai. He added that an emergency had been declared in all the hospitals and that the severely injured persons were being transported to Quetta.

Interim Interior Minister of Pakistan Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti criticized the incident and offered his sorrow over the lives lost.  According to Dawn, he said that every available resource was being used for the rescue effort. Ali Mardan Domki, the interim chief minister of Balochistan, condemned the occurrence and mandated an investigation into the explosion.

He instructed officials to deliver a report on the explosion as soon as possible, Dawn said.

In another instance, Two explosions that occurred on Friday at the Doaba police station in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Hangu neighborhood left at least four people dead, including a police officer, and 12 others hurt, according to a report from Dawn that cited police.

Officer Nisar Ahmed of the Hangu District Police verified the fatalities and injuries. According to him, a large crowd assembled at the scene of the incident following the first blast, which occurred at the police station's door. 

"A few minutes later," he said, "another blast happened inside a mosque that is located on the grounds of the police station." According to DPO Ahmed, the second explosion occurred during the Friday sermon, according to Dawn.
