With its monster new console, Project Scorpio, due a grandstand presentation ahead of launch later in the year, Xbox has an opportunity to show exactly what makes its machine a world-beater during a June 11 media briefing that's to be broadcast live online.

Officially revealed at the previous year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, Project Scorpio is Microsoft's chance to tip the balance of console power in its own favor.

Already given a technical breakdown courtesy of Digital Foundry's independent team, Scorpio is expected to outpace Sony's 2016 equivalent upgraded PlayStation, the PlayStation 4 Pro.

That's important because the PlayStation 4 has so far outsold the Xbox One on a global scale, thanks to early advantages in terms of price, power, and contrasting perceptions of company values.

So expect a final name for Project Scorpio and a release date, if not a price, along with reasons to be wowed by the prospect of ultra high definition 4k gaming in the months and years to come, plus assurances that the current crop of Xbox One and legacy Xbox 360 games will still work just as well, if not better, on Scorpio hardware.

A version of racing franchise "Forza Motorsport" has been used to demonstrate the Scorpio's power and for that reason "Forza Motorsport 7" may be around the corner.

Similarly, city-leveling action adventure "Crackdown 3" (2015 trailer:youtu.be/d_nZ1xYyj6A) has been telegraphed for a late 2017 launch, while frantic multiplayer pirate jaunt "Sea of Thieves" (2016 trailer:youtu.be/7wYZIHoqM1M) and zombie apocalypse survival mission "State of Decay 2" (2016 trailer:youtu.be/_JMJFyXuGUw) have likewise enjoyed successful E3 premieres in previous years, and are now expected before the end of the year.

As for "Halo," Microsoft's best known action franchise of all, "Halo 5" launched in 2015, making this a good opportunity for an early peek at "Halo 6" should it be ready in time.
