India badminton star PV Sindhu had to settle for silver again after she lost to Carolina Marin of Spain in the final of the BWF Badminton World Championships 2018

Marin, who had defeated Sindhu in the final at Rio Olympics in 2016, came out on top again with a dominating performance winning the match 21-19, 21-10 in 46 minutes.

While Sindhu presented some resistence in the first game, the Spaniard easily won the second to claim her third world title.

Sindhu was leading 11-8 at the break in first game. She was looking good to seal the first game wit 14-9 lead at one point. However, Marin fought her way back in the match to make it 15-15. She then went on to win the game 21-19.

Sindhu conceded a 5-0 lead at the start of the second game and never felt like making a comeback. Marin soon surged 11-2 ahead and ended the game 21-10.

This is Sindhu's fourth medal at the World Championship. Sindhu had defeated Japanese second seed Akane Yamaguchi in straight games to enter her second consecutive final of the competition.

The Indian world No. 3 had lost the 2017 Worlds final to Japan's Nozomi Okuhara.

The second silver meant Sindhu is the only Indian to have four world championships podium finishes. She had won two bronze medals at the 2013 Guangzhou and 2014 Copenhagen editions.

Marin became the first woman shuttler to win the world championships thrice. She had won the title in 2014 and the 2015 Jakarta edition.

Sindhu had entered the summit clash with a 5-6 loss-win head-to-head against Marin, but the Indian ace had won the last meeting at the Malaysian Open in June.
