MUMBAI: “This is for all the teachers,” said Yogesh Pawar after sinking a 32-year-old inter-college record on the final day of the swimming championship at the Hindu Bath pool here on Monday. The 18-year-old Yogesh dedicated his record-breaking effort to all his teachers, a day before the Teachers Day.

A first year Science student from Ruia college, Yogesh did not get a good start, but known for his astounding finishing tactics he outswam Varun Divgikar, SAF Games medallist in the last lap to clinch the gold in the 200m butterfly stroke event. He clocked 2:32.51 erasing the old record of 2:35.5 set by DD Khatau of St Xaviers in the year 1971, at the same venue.

The day witnessed two more record-breaking efforts. Varun Divgikar set the trend setting a new meet record in the 100m freestyle and later Juilee Patwardhan joined the party with a stunning performance in the 400m freestyle. And these toppers also dedicated their records for teachers.
