10-year rigorous imprisonment for four Bangladeshis

The arrested men were involved in circulating fake currency.

The district and session judge of fourth court, Aurangabad, on Tuesday sentenced four Bangladeshi nationals to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for staying in India illegally and circulating counterfeit currency notes in various Indian cities.

The state government pleader Janardhan B Navale submitted the proof in the court that the four accused were staying in India illegally and circulated bogus notes in various cities of the country. They had woven a network to exchange genuine Indian currency against counterfeit notes.

The police had filed charge-sheet against eight persons; four of them were Indians who were allegedly involved in circulating fake currency. However, the court released them, as the police failed to submit accurate proof against them.

In May 2007, the officers of the Kranti Chowk police station got a tip-off that some Bangladeshis are staying in a hotel near railway station. The police raided the hotel and arrested Rohul Ameen Abu Rauf. During the search of the room, the police found counterfeit currency notes worth to Rs4 lakh of Rs500 and Rs1,000 denominations.

Also, the police seized the receipts of amount deposited in the UTI branches of Nanded, Panvel and Borgaon cities. Besides, some maps, dairies and two passports in different names were also recovered from his possession.

Later on, the police arrested his accomplice Abdul Motalib Abdul Aziz in the same area. The police had also informed the Bangladesh High Commissioner about the accused.

During the interrogation, police came to know that two more persons also staying in India illegally in different cities and dealing in fake currency and four Indians are helping them.

The police had arrested Mohammed Saifuddin and M Modeyar Aslam from Bangladesh, and Shaikh Shahnoor Shaikh Chand, Rehana Kabir Khan, Ansar Ruby Khan and Nargis Parveen (Indians).
