While swine flu has claimed three lives this month in Pune, experts handling the endemic say Mumbaikars have nothing to worry about.

This month, three people, including a three-month-old boy died of swine flu.

“The figures are dipping in Pune and state. We are seeing only sporadic cases now,” said Dr Pradip Awate, state surveillance health officer. As per the records, August recorded 222 deaths, while September 133. In October, 13 cases were recorded, which decreased to just the one case in November.

“As the temperature has reduced, these cases are coming up. But the epidemicity of the disease has declined in the state,” said Awate.

Dr Om Shrivastav, an infectious diseases expert who is on the state advisory committee, said, “We will have to look at the individual cases of the deaths before commenting. Respiratory diseases are on a high in this weather, which includes swine flu.”
