With the maximum temperatures on Monday reaching 35.2 degree Celsius, the weather forecast suggests that Mumbaikars might have to brace up for yet another period of sharp rise in mercury.
In fact, officials from Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai, claim that right from February, Mumbai has been witnessing sharp variations in weather, and temperatures have hit as high as 38.4 degrees on March 27.
On Monday the maximum temperatures recorded at Santacruz was 35.2 degree Celsius while the minimum was 21.2 degree Celsius. The maximum recorded at Colaba was 34.4 degree Celsius while the minimum was 26.5 degree Celsius. The forecast for the next 24 hours was to expect the maximum temperature to touch 36 degree Celsius.
"The temperature has shown a gradual increase from last week and there is a likelihood that it can soar up to three degrees in the coming days. There are some changes expected in the wind directions that could cause the mercury to rise," said an official.
Meanwhile, even Skymet, which is a private weather forecasting agency too claimed that temperatures in Mumbai could rise.
