Sunil Manohar quits Advocate general post, resignation accepted

Manohar is the son of former AG and noted counsel on constitutional issues VR Manohar. His brother Shashank is also a lawyer and former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. His sister Vasanti Naik is a high court judge.

Advocate general (AG) Sunil Manohar has resigned from his post citing personal reasons. As AG, Manohar represented the state government before the Bombay High Court.

Manohar, who was appointed as AG on November 18, 2014, handed over his resignation letter to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. His resignation has been accepted by the cabinet. It will now be forwarded to the governor.
In his six-month stint as AG, Manohar defended the government's stand on the controversial beef ban issue.

Manohar is the son of former AG and noted counsel on constitutional issues VR Manohar. His brother Shashank is also a lawyer and former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. His sister Vasanti Naik is a high court judge.

Manohar started his practice in 1987. An alumni of Somalwar High School in Nagpur, he obtained his commerce degree from GS Commerce College and did his law from Nagpur University's Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar College of Law. He is also a former Ranji player. He was designated as senior counsel of Bombay High Court on September 2, 2011.

A circular issued by the governemnt said Manohar's resignation has been accepted. The government has handed over temporary charge of the AG's post to additioanl solicitor general Anil SIngh.

Fadnavis tweeted: "Maharashtra Cabinet accepts resignation of Advocate General Sunil Manohar; gives temporary charge to Addnl Solicitor Gen of India Anil Singh."

He further tweeted: "CM @Dev_Fadnavis acknowledges the hard & sincere work done by Adv Sunil Manohar and he continues to be a Special Counsel for the State Govt."
