A local Shiv Sena leader has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a former party man, who contested against him as an independent in last week's Nashik Municipal Corporation polls, police said today.
Last night, the accused Nivrutti Datir and his supporters attacked Dilip Datir, who sustained injuries and has been admitted at a private hospital, they said.
Dilip was attacked as Nivrutti believed that he was defeated due to the former's candidature, police said.
Nivrutti had polled 2,540 votes, while Dilip got 2,694 votes. Both were defeated by CPM candidate Tanaji Jaibhave.
Following the attack, Nivrutti, his father Namdev and son Deepak have been arrested, police said.
