Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has rolled out robust integrated intelligent transport system which the civic body has claimed to be the first of its kind in the country. Civic body has launched independent mobile app 'NMMT Bus Tracker' to facilitate commuters to track buses.
Civic chief Tukaram Mundhe claimed that features in the mobile app started by NMMC will change the way people commute in the city.
"Commuters can check waiting time of a particular route at a particular bus stand through the app," said Mundhe, adding that the app also has features to provide seats availability in buses.
On part of security features, commuters can use the app to send SMS or WhatsApp message to their kin and the message will have all information such as route number, arrival time at particular bus stand, bus registration number, driver's and conductor's name.
Mundhe said that the whole system, divided in two phases, will be implemented by May end and Rs 10 crore will be spent on it. "
At present, NMMT has 450 buses in its fleet which include 78 air-conditioned buses. "We have brought down Rs 9 per km operating loss from Rs 18 in the last six month and now, we want to bring it down to break-even," added Mundhe.
