The Bombay High Court recently upheld life imprisonment for a 26-year-old man who had killed his friend after a fight over a wrist watch. A trial court had convicted the man, Imtiyaz Sayed, to life in 2003.
Sayed allegedly murdered his friend Imtiyaz Javed in 2000 for not returning a wrist watch that he [Javed] had borrowed.
As Javed refused to return the watch, Sayed had slapped him. Javed then returned the watch and walked away. He was called back by Sayed and stabbed with a knife.
Sayed’s lawyer, advocate Prakash Wagh, told the high court that Sayed had not intention to kill Javed.
The high court, however, said that the stab wound was “not delivered in the heat of the moment”.
