Man accused of vehicle theft runs away from police custody

Vijay Muluk, 20, was arrested by Vanrai police station for stealing vehicles and was produced in the court on Tuesday and remanded to police custody.

A twenty year old accused in theft case escaped from police custody on Wednesday night when he was being taken to Borivali lock-up after a medical test.

According to police, the accused, Vijay Muluk, 20, was arrested by Vanrai police station for stealing vehicles and was produced in the court on Tuesday and remanded to police custody.

“Muluk was being taken for a medical check-up at night in Bhagwati hospital and three police constables escorted him in the jeep. The constables noticed some chaos outside the Vanrai police station and they stopped the jeep realising that something was wrong.

"Muluk pushed one of the constables and jumped from the vehicle and ran away with handcuffs,” a police officer of the Vanrai police station said at the condition of anonymity.

“The incident took place around 3 am on Wednesday and we have sent a police team to trace him. We have also circulated his photographs to other police stations. Muluk has past crime records, including a bike theft,” said another officer.
