‘Managements of bank and HDIL should be probed’

Two prominent city BJP leaders are at loggerheads over securing a party ticket for their sons for the state polls. And in the churn has emerged a police complaint letter seeking an investigation into the Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative Bank fiasco.
Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya has written to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) seeking a probe into the fiasco at PMCB.
In his letter on Thursday to the EOW, he demanded that both HDIL and PMCB be probed for "looting 9.12 lakh PMC bank customers."
RBI did not declare the loan on its list of defaulters, leading to the RBI sanctions which triggered panic among PMCB depositors who could not access their funds.
"HDIL defaulted on repayment of loan. Still, further crores were given to it. This has happened because bank management and HDIL management are hand in glove. Their relationship has to be also probed," his letter states.
"RBI should also file a criminal complaint against them. A full-fledged forensic audit of PMC bank and HDIL accounts should be done and all transactions between them should be probed," it states.

BJP's four-time MLA Sardar Tarasingh, 75, wants to field his son Rajneet Singh, a director at the crisis-hit PMCB, from Mulund in his place for the state polls.
But Somaiya, too, wants the seat for his son Neil, a BMC corporator. He has now demanded a probe into the irregularities at PMCB, which was placed under restrictions by RBI on Tuesday.
Sardar Tara Singh told DNA that Somaiya wanted a poll ticket from Mulund for his son, so he was out to malign his son Rajneet.
"I am old now so I want to field my son, who also works in public service. He wants to contest if I am not contesting. But Somaiya wanted to contest at any condition. He is publicity-hungry and has complained against my son just to get attention," Singh said. He said "we will abide" by whatever decision the party took.
"Somaiya also went to meet our minister Nitin Gadkari ji, but he flatly refused to meddle in his dirty game," said Singh. DNA could not corroborate this statement.
Somaiya said he was urging for a probe in public interest.
"I am not against Rajneet Singh even though he is a director at the bank. Most of the loans are approved and disbursed by the manager. Therefore, we want an in-depth probe so the guilty will be punished. Action should be taken against the management of HDIL as well as that of PMCB for looting 9.12 lakh customers. A forensic audit of PMCB should be done," he said.
He further asked, "Why are people against the probe? They want to protect HDIL which had taken the huge loan, and because of them, the bank is suffering. After the probe, everything will be out in the open," Somaiya said.
On Wednesday, he had written to MoS Finance Anurag Thakur urging protection of small depositors, senior citizens and widows who were hit by the PMCB chaos.
