The state government on Tuesday announced that strict action will be taken against those who celebrate Dahi Handi by violating the Supreme Court (SC) directives.
The SC has put a cap of 20 ft on the human pyramids formed during the festivities saying it is dangerous to have taller handis. KP Bakshi, additional chief secretary of home department, said that they will implement the order of the Supreme Court. "I do not want to go to jail by not implementing the apex court order. We have already given instructions to the police department and issued notices as well. The SC order will be strictly implemented by the government," Bakshi said.
NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad has cancelled his 'Sangharsh' dahi handi event in Thane. He said that there is no more thrill in this event. "I was celebrating and oraganising the Dahi Handi event for last 30 years. Earlier, there was glamour and people used to enjoy. Now, things have changed; therefore, I have decided to cancel the event and celebrate at home," Awhad said.
