Dr Manikrao Salunkhe took charge as the vice chancellor (VC) of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University on Tuesday. He promised to initiate steps to meet new challenges in education with transparency in functioning and a special focus on the lower sections of society.
Salunkhe is the 14th vice chancellor of the open university. He accepted the charge from Dr Arun Jamkar, who was holding additional responsibility following the demise of
Dr Krishnakumar in January. Jamkar is VC of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik.
Addressing a function marking his appointment, Salunkhe said he was honoured to work at an institution named after a stalwart like Yashwantrao Chavan. He urged his colleagues to work together to educate the youth towards building a stronger nation.
He said he would make all efforts to extend "education to anyone anywhere" and toward this end he planned to strengthen the varsity's sub-centres.
