A divide has once again surfaced between Maratha and Agri communities following the clashes between them during the Maratha Kranti Morcha agitation in Navi Mumbai, which has disturbed the area's social fabric.

The growing tensions are reflecting on social media as well with the youth from both the communities writing against each other and threatening revenge.

This won't be the first time that tensions have escalated. In the July 25 protests, 100 odd private vehicles were damaged for which Aagris blamed the Maratha community protestors. It was later clarified that the Maratha community had no role in the same.

Maratha community leader, Narendra Patil said they have been staying in Navi Mumbai for a long time and they have a very cordial relationship with the locals. "Those who vandalised the public property should be punished. We do not want to protect any miscreant. But the Maratha community and Aagri community always extend help and cooperation to each other during the crisis. This should be continued. We with the help of the police will arrange the meetings with the local and try to restore harmony," Patil said.

Nilesh Patil, president of Aagri-Koli Youth Foundation admitted that there is tense situations but the time is the best medicine. "We do not want to take any immediate step. Let the situations get cool down. Once the people get engaged in their work, then automatically the normalcy will come back. We have positive intention but some time the right step also backfired. Therefore, there is no more agitations, then we will take up this conciliatory meetings with Maratha leaders in Navi Mumbai," Patil said.

Another Maratha leader on the condition of anonymity said that the demography of Navi Mumbai has been changed. "We do respect local people but they should not threat to our youths. Otherwise, we show them our strength during the upcoming elections. We all outsiders will joint hand and defeat the Aagri candidates in the upcoming elections. We also want the peace but it should be reciprocated," he added.
