With Bangalore becoming a city with a conscience, organic food products are finding a stronger foothold, as stores across the city are letting people choose more wisely.

Brown Tree
Not so long ago, the city welcomed a chain of organic stores called Brown Tree. Located at rather prime points, Brown Tree, the Chennai-based chain of health food stores, is currently located on Church Street, Malleswaram and Koramangala. They basically house dry fruits, spices, some organic food (not really in large quantities), chocolates, pickles, imported cookies (even for diabetics) etc…

However, it’s not exactly possible to do your grocery shopping from this store because staples aren’t available in large quantities as of now.

Spice Route
This shop is like a dot of heaven for those who enjoy cooking. From organic pulses and condiments (including pine nuts!) you can take your pick from things like powdered tomato, lime zest powder, vanilla pods, concentrated coconut oil in a spray, exotic teas and even some pickle.

They even sell a few accessories like a Japanese teapot (pretty expensive though). The staff is non-intrusive and will only come forward when you need some assistance. The store is located at Mantri Mall, Malleswaram.

Mother Tree
Located on the Inner Ring Road between Indiranagar and Koramangala, Mother Tree isn’t just a place for clothes and furniture. It also has a medium-sized corner for organic food products such as rice, wheat, pulses etc. It also has organic pasta, home grown spices etc. Fresh organic vegetables are available between Friday and Sunday.

24 Letter Mantra
This specific brand is a strong endorser of natural farming practices and sells wholesome food that is cultivated without the use of pesticides. You’ll get rice, dal, other pulses, spices and honey from this label that mostly sells through the various Spencers outlets in the city.

Fabindia
Their clothes, linen and furniture need no introduction. However, what Fabindia also does is promote organic food products. Most of their outlets house cereals, grains, pulses, spices, sugar, tea, coffee, fruit preserves and herbs. They are also known to sell handmade soaps and skin and hair care products.

Fresh Earth
This store, located on CMH Road, Indiranagar, is known for their range of fresh and organic products. From a wide repertoire of grains and pulses, Fresh Earth also sells products like pickles, preserves, jams, exotic vegetables, herbs, natural soaps, scrubbers, natural cleaning agents, mosquito repellents, aromatic oils. You can also buy organic millet flours like ragi, bajra, great millet and fox tail millet.

In The Pink
It’s got to be one of the coolest concepts in the city. In The Pink is an organic bazaar and restaurant. Using the whole idea behind traditional farming and marketing system, the place provides chemical-free and cost effective fresh produce. You’ll find pulses, spices, jams, bakery products that are vegan in nature among others. In The Pink is located at Dollars Colony, BTM Layout, Bannerghata Road.

Lumiere
This restaurant and store, on the Outer Ring Road, Doddanekundi, Marathahalli, apart from food, offers a range of organically grown grains, pulses, honey, spices, nuts and even fruit squashes that are sourced from different parts of the country. They also let you pick from their chemical and pesticide free array of vegetables and fruits. But that’s not all, a range of natural and organic cosmetics and handmade bamboo products to replace plastic with, among others, are also available.

Gramya
Rajajinagar has a green zone too — with Gramya offering home and utility products including cushion covers, shopping bags, blinds etc made of organic fabrics. They also have a range of fabrics as well, including banana fibre blended with river grass, wool, jute and hibiscus. As for their food product range, you can buy nutraceutical and ethnic foods, convenience food and spices and health food also.

Iha Naturals
Residents of Rajarajeshwari Nagar can now grab organic food products such as cereals, pulses, herbs and spices, cooking oil, tea as well as herbal powders and beauty products. And  every Saturday, fresh fruits and vegetables are also on offer.
