Beach-front themes seem to be the new thing that’s trending in the Mumbai circuit. With SoBo getting the latest beach-front cafe, it appears that Mumbai is taking to Goa.

What with several such places cropping up in the city lately, beach-front events, where one can kick back on a deck chair, dig their feet into the sand and enjoy wholesome cuisines from the cafes of Europe are becoming popular by the day.

Cafe By The Beach (Girgaon Chowpatty), an all day cafe, has a chic and informal look throughout the day, which transforms into a perfect spot for sundowners.

The uber-cool beachside gazebos could be the option for those looking to enjoy a cozy outing with friends and family. The sophisticated decor, covered by a blanket of palm trees, takes one away from the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle.

Varun Kapur, Director of Global Kitchens, who runs the cafe, says, “In Mumbai today, there are very few places available where one can truly sit back, relax and allow time to slow down. With its relaxed vibe, the most beautiful sunset in the city, some well presented food, our cafe provides the perfect escape for one’s senses from the madness of the city.”

Says Raman Macker, director of Aurus (another beach-front night spot), “The logic behind the theme is the same as to why people would go to, says, Goa or Juhu beach. It’s just being able to hang around on the beach and enjoy the surrounding. Along with the cool sea breeze, the fine dining experience shoots it one notch up.”

Other places like Novotel and Hometown cafe also have beach-front themes. Dharmesh Karmokar, director of Silver Beach Cafe, explains, “It’s mainly for the visual appeal. No one wants to see the traffic at Kalbadevi while having a beautiful dinner. But yes, the sea cannot be in Vasai, because it has too many mosquitoes and filth! It must have visual delight coupled with good food and service.” He further adds, “The idea is to provide peace. Images of the sea do just that. With no empty space in the city, sea is the only view left, until we allow illegal construction on it.”
