Power Houses: This assembly election has given a new lease of life to Madernas & Bishnois

This election has consigned many political heavyweights to the dustbin of history but for the two powerful Jat families, the polls have not only given a fresh lease of their dwindling political career but also revived their family legacy. Madernas and Bishnois have ruled the roost but the Bhanwari Devi episode struck like a bolt from blue and it looked the two famous families will wither away in political wilderness. Former minister Mahipal Maderna and Malkhan Singh Bishnoi have been convicted in the Bhanwari Devi murder case.
But their children have kept their legacy alive. Divya Maderna, daughter of Mahipal, and Mahendra Bishnoi, son of Malkhan have won from Osian and Luni constituencies respectively.
Congress had in 2013 given tickets to Leela Maderna, wife of Mahipal and to Amri Devi mother of Malkhan.
These families are carrying the political legacy of Jat stalwarts Parasram Maderna and Ram Singh Bishnoi. It was being considered that the political clout of these families will diminish after Leela and Amri Devi were defeated in 2013. This time, however, this next generation of these leaders have won.
Apart from them, Ramswarup Lamba, son of late Sanwarlal Jat has also won. He won from Nasirabad on BJP ticket. His victory came as a surprise as he was defeated in the byelection early this year which was held after his father’s death.
However, the emotional wave for Dr Shailesh Singh who is son of late BJP leader Digamber Singh was not able to save him. He was defeated by Congress leader Vishvendra Singh just like Digamber was defeated in 2013 elections. Another son who has lost the election is Hemant Meena. He was fielded by BJP from Pratapgarh after his father Nandlal Meena asked for ticket for his son. He was defeated by Congress leader Ramlal Jat. From Mundawar, BJP candidate Manjeet, son of late BJP leader Dharampal Choudhary, has won defeating Lalit Yadav of BSP.
However from Behror, Mohit Yadav, who is son of cabinet minister Jaswant Yadav, was not so fortunate as he was humbled by Baljeet Yadav, independent candidate. Jaswant had been demanding ticket for his son even though he lost Lok Sabha bypolls from Alwar held early this year.
