Cancer silences giant killer Kalyan Singh Chouhan at 59

Nathdwara MLA Kalyan Singh Chouhan passed away on Wednesday early morning.

Chouhan was not well for quite some time and was suffering from cancer. He took his last breath at a private hospital in Udaipur. Educated till class 8, Chouhan was a second-time MLA from Nathdwara. He was shot  to limelight after defeating Congress stalwart C P Joshi by 1 vote in 2008 assembly elections when Joshi was being considered a major contender fort the post of chief minister.  As the news of his demise reached people, his supporters flocked to the hospital.

As a mark of respect, Assembly was adjourned for the day, while Governor Kalyan Singh, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje condoled his death and offered their tributes. Raje in her condolence message said that Chouhan was inseparable part of the BJP and his demise was a loss to her and the party.

Raje went to Dagwara to pay last respect to Chouhan and consoled his family members. Speaker Kailash Meghwal condoled the aggrieved family members and the House observed two-minute silence following which it was adjourned for the day.Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot tweeted, “Sad to learn the demise of Nathdwara BJP MLA  Kalyan Singh Chouhan. My heartfelt condolences to his family members.” He was cremated on Wednesday . 

Minsiter Rajendra Rathore, speaker Kailash Meghwal, Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria and many other leaders offered their tributes to the departed soul.

CP Joshi with whom Kalyan Singh worked during his Congress days condoled the death and said that Chouhan had a long political journey right from being a sarpanch to two-time MLA. His death has once again reduced the number to 199 MLAs in the assembly.
