A brutal and horrific case of alleged gang rape, reminiscent of the Nirbhaya gang-rape case in Delhi, was reported from Uttar Pradesh's Badaun district where a middle-aged woman was assaulted, gang-raped and then killed.

A 50-year-old Anganwadi worker was allegedly raped and murdered in the Ughaiti area of Uttar Pradesh's Badaun district, police said on Tuesday. A case has been registered against three people in the matter, out of which two have been arrested.

According to the post-mortem report, an iron rod was inserted into the woman's private parts and it was also found that the woman's lung was punctured, with several ribs and leg broken.

A panel of three doctors, including a woman doctor, performed the post-mortem. As per the report, the woman had serious wounds in her private part and there was severe blood loss. The report suggests she was hit by something heavy.

The Anganwadi worker went to a temple on Sunday evening and never returned. Locals of the village have alleged that around 12 am, a car rider and two other men escaped, leaving the woman bleeding, reported News 18.

The woman succumbed to her injuries that night. As per the News 18 report, the accused had taken the victim to Chandausi for treatment, earlier in their car.

Family members of the victim have alleged that the police station officer of Ughaiti, Raghvendra Pratap Singh, did not reach the spot even after the complaint. The body was sent for post-mortem 44 hours after the incident. The police repeatedly told family members that the victim died after falling into a well.

While talking to ANI, Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Budaun, Sankalp Sharma said that four teams have been formed to nab the three accused.

"Under Ughaiti police station area of Budaun, the body of a 50-year-old lady was found in the mysterious condition. Based on the Post mortem report and complaint by the relatives, a case has been registered against three people under Sections 376 (rape) and 302 (murder) of IPC. Four teams have been formed to nab the accused," Sharma said.

The police have registered a murder case against a Mahant, including one of his disciples and the driver on the behest of the victim's family.
